Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
This policy covers two things: the Scantic app for iPhone, and this website (scantic.app). The short version of both: we do not collect your data.
The Scantic app
Scantic does not collect, transmit or sell any personal data. Scans are captured, computed and stored entirely on your iPhone. Nothing leaves the device unless you share it yourself.
Camera
Scantic uses the camera to film your surroundings while you scan. The footage is processed on your iPhone into a 3D scan and stored in the app's local library. The footage itself is never uploaded or sent anywhere. Only the finished 3D scan can leave the device, and only if you create a share link yourself.
Motion and depth data
While scanning, the app reads the device's motion sensors and camera tracking data to know where the phone is pointing. This data is used on the device during capture and processing, and is stored only as part of your local scans.
No accounts, no tracking, no third parties
- No account or sign-up. The app works without one.
- No analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
- No third-party services receive your data.
- The app works completely offline.
Sharing a file
When you choose to export a scan as a file, iOS hands it to the app or person you pick. That transfer happens only on your explicit action and goes only where you send it.
Share links
Creating a share link is the one action that uploads data: the finished 3D scan (compressed), a small metadata file, and, for public links only, one preview image and the scan name. Your camera footage, your photos, your location and your name never leave the iPhone.
- Private and password links are encrypted on your iPhone before upload. The decryption key travels only inside the link itself, in a part of the address that browsers never send to servers. Our server stores data it cannot read, and we could not open your scan if we wanted to.
- Public links are stored readable so that link previews can show a real image. Anyone with the link can view the scan.
- Share links expire after the period you pick (or never, if you choose so). You can turn any link off at any time in the app under My Shares; the stored data is then deleted immediately. Anyone who already downloaded the scan keeps their copy.
- What the server keeps per share: the encrypted or public scan data, timestamps, the chosen expiry and technical parameters needed for decryption in your browser. No account, no name, no device identifier.
- Where shares are stored: on a Hetzner server in Nuremberg, Germany. Shared scans are stored exclusively in the EU.
- Viewing a shared scan in the browser sets no cookies either.
Deleting your data
Your scans live inside the app on your iPhone. Deleting a scan in the app removes it from the device. Deleting the app removes everything.
This website
- No cookies.
- No analytics and no tracking.
- No third-party fonts, scripts or embeds. Every request stays on scantic.app.
- No contact forms; nothing you type is sent to us through this site.
Like almost every web server, ours keeps short-lived technical logs (IP address, requested page, time) to operate the service and fend off abuse. These logs are not used to identify visitors and are deleted routinely.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and erase personal data concerning you. Since neither the app nor this website collects personal data beyond the short-lived server logs described above, there is usually nothing we could look up about you. If you have any privacy question or request, contact privacy@scantic.app.
Who is responsible
Scantic is operated by Sebastian Beyer, Vienna, Austria. Full details are on the imprint page.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with an updated date. Since the app does not collect data, changes are expected to be rare and editorial.
