Frequently asked questions
Which iPhones does Scantic run on?
Scantic requires an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Newer iPhones process scans noticeably faster.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Capturing, processing and viewing all happen on your iPhone. Scantic works completely offline.
Where are my scans stored?
In the app's library on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded. Deleting a scan removes it from the device; deleting the app removes everything.
How do I get a good scan?
- Move in a slow circle around your subject and try to cover every side.
- More light helps. Dim rooms make blurrier scans.
- Hold steady and slow down when the app asks you to.
- The capture stays in your library, so you can process it again anytime.
My iPhone gets warm while processing. Is that normal?
Yes. Building a 3D scene is heavy work for the phone. Scantic watches the temperature and pauses or adapts before iOS has to step in. If the phone is already hot, let it cool down for a few minutes.
Can I share a scan?
Yes. Use the share button on a scan to create a share link that works in any modern browser, or export the raw file. Sharing is always your explicit action; Scantic never sends anything on its own.
Who can see a scan I shared?
That is your choice when you create the link. Anyone with the link: the scan is encrypted on your iPhone and the key travels only inside the link, so only people who have the link can open it. Public: the scan is stored readable and the link preview shows a real image. Link and password: like a private link, plus a password you choose and share separately.
What does the download switch do?
It shows or hides the download button on the share page. Be aware that to display a scan, its data always reaches the viewer's browser; the switch controls convenience, it is not copy protection.
How long do share links live?
You pick an expiry when you create the link: 7 days, 30 days, 1 year, or no expiry. You can turn a link off at any time in Settings under My Shares. Anyone who already downloaded the scan keeps their copy.
Why does a share link not work for someone?
Three common reasons: the link was not copied completely (everything after the # sign is part of the key), the link has expired or was turned off, or their browser is too old. The viewer needs Safari 16.4 or later, or a current Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
